Computer Class

Jennifer Liddell

Welcome to Computers. My name is Jennifer Liddell.

SOMETHING ABOUT ME

I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Weber State University in 1994. I promptly moved to California to begin teaching. I taught middle school and high school for six years before moving back to Utah and starting my family. I have four children under age nine. In order to stay home with my children, I have taught off and on in various positions, most recently as a 7th grade English teacher at Mt. Ogden Middle School. My children have attended St. Paul since pre-school and I am excited to be given this opportunity to join the staff.

CLASS DESCRIPTION

The course is designed to meet or exceed the requirements for Computer Technology as prescribed by the Utah State Office of Education. The state requirements can be found at: http://www.schools.utah.gov/curr/core/corepdf/EduTech.pdf , pages 19-22 for grades 3-5, pages 23-26 for grades 6-8. In addition to the internet for research and blogging, students will be instructed in using most programs in the Microsoft Office package and Windows Movie Maker. Younger grades will be using Typing Times and Typing Instructor for Kids to assist with keyboarding skills.

It is my goal that before a student leaves St. Paul they will:
a) have a basic understanding of computer history and ethics
b) be able to easily find and use appropriate research material
c) be able to type above the minimum wpm level established in the state core
d) be able to create effective materials in most Microsoft Office programs.

TECHNOLOGY AGREEMENT:

Each student and his or her parents are required to sign a Student Technology Agreement before the student is allowed into the computer lab. This agreement establishes policies and procedures for the student’s use of the lab at St. Paul. As stated in the contract, violations of this contract are subject to disciplinary actions including revocation of the student’s computer usage.
